1. This is a thoroughly random and asymmetrical design. The idea is to maintain balance but refrain from symmetry...which is easier said than done!
2. Start by creating the core necklace. Attach lobster clasp to one end of a 22” section of bronze wire.
3. Slide a silk rondelle on wire, looping wire back through it so it is stationed at about ¾” from the clasp. Add a pacific opal rondelle, crystal copper rondelle and 2 silk rondelles. Loop wire back through the last silk rondelle to station it.
4. Place a tooth bead and a silk rondelle on the wire. Loop wire around silk rondelle so it is stationed approximately 7/8” from the last stationed rondelle.
5. Slide a faceted quartz coin and three crystal copper rondelles on the wire followed by a silk rondelle. Loop the wire through the silk rondelle this should be approximately 1 7/8” from the last stationed rondelle.
6. Slide on a pacific opal, quartz nugget, silk, crystal copper, two pacific opals and a silk bead. Loop wire back through silk bead. This should be approx. 2” from the last stationed bead.
7. Slide a coin and a silk rondelle on looping wire through silk at about 5/8” from last stationed bead.
8. Slide on two crystal coppers, a tooth and a silk bead. Loop wire through silk bead at about 1” from last stationed bead.
9. Slide on a pacific opal, crystal copper, pacific opal, nugget and a silk bead. Loop wire back through silk bead so it is 1 2/8” from last stationed bead.
10. Slide on a coin and three silk beads. Loop wire through last silk bead so it is 1” from last stationed bead.
11. Slide on a crystal copper, nugget, 2 pacific opals and a silk bead. Loop wire through silk bead so it is 1 2/8t” from last stationed bead.
12. Slide on a tooth and a silk bead, loop wire into silk bead so it is ¼” from last stationed bead.
13. Slide on 2 crystal coppers, silk, coin and a silk bead. Loop wire through silk bead so it is 1 6/8” from last stationed bead.
14. Slide on a crystal copper, pacific opal, nugget and a silk bead. Loop wire through silk bead so it is 1 3/8” from last stationed bead.
15. Slide on 2 silks, a coin, a tooth and a silk bead. Loop wire through silk bead so it is 1 3/8” from last stationed bead.
16. Slide on a nugget and a silk bead. Loop wire through silk bead so it is 1 7/8” from last stationed bead.
17. Slide on a final coin and attach wire to a 6mm copper jump ring with a crimp bead. Space from last stationed bead to crimp bead should be 7/8”.
18. Attach four more jump rings to create a chain and slide an open copper heart on final jump ring.
19. To make the tendrils you will build them off of the core necklace. The first tendril hangs off of the 4th section from the lobster clasp. Cut off a 2” strand of wire and thread on a crimp bead. Thread the wire over the core wire in between the first two crystal copper rondelles. Use crimp tool to secure wire and clip off any excess.
20. Thread a pacific opal on and loop the wire back into it to secure it on the wire. Add a coin, a silk and a crystal copper bead. Secure end of wire by flattening the end with a crimp bead using chain nose pliers to keep beads from slipping off.
21. Move down to the next section. Cut off a 3.5” section of wire. Attach it to the core wire with a crimp bead between the last pacific opal and the silk rondelle. Slide on a crystal copper and two pacific opals. Secure end by flattening a crimp bead with chain nose pliers.
22. Move down three sections. Cut off 2 3”sections of wire. Attach one between the pacific opal and the crystal copper rondelles with a crimp bead. Slide on a pacific opal bead, a coin, a crystal copper bead and a crimp. Flatten the crimp with chain nose pliers.
23. Slide the second wire into the pacific opal bead. Add a crimp bead, a crystal copper bead and a second crimp bead to the top of the wire. Use chain nose pliers to flatten crimps and station crystal copper bead at end of wire.
24. Slide a crimp bead, a pacific opal bead and a second crimp bead on the lower half of wire and secure crimps with chain nose pliers as before.
25. Move down to the next section. Cut off a 5” section of wire. Slide on a silk, a crystal copper, a coin, a silk, a pacific opal and a crimp bead. Secure the last crimp bead to the end of the wire using chain nose pliers to flatten the crimps.
26. Cut off two 2.5” sections of wire. Thread one through the top silk bead. Slide a coin, silk and a crimp bead to the top tail of wire. Secure end by flattening crimp bead with chain nose pliers.
27. Slide on a crimp bead, a pacific opal and another crimp bead on the bottom. Secure the bead in between the crimps and on the end of the wire by flattening them with chain nose pliers.
28. Slide the second 2.5” section of wire into the crystal copper bead on the core wire. Slide a crimp bead, a silk and a crimp bead on the top of the wire. Secure the silk bead on the end of the wire between the two crimps with chain nose pliers.
29. Slide a crimp bead, a crystal copper and a crimp bead on the end of the wire. Secure the bead on the end of the wire between the crimps as before.
30. Move up one section. Cut off a 2.5” section of wire. Attach it between the crystal copper and the smoky nugget. Slide on a crystal copper bead and loop the wire through it to station it ¼” from top of wire. Slide on a crystal copper, silk, pacific opal and a crimp bead. Flatten crimp to end of wire as before.
31. Move to the next section. Cut off a 3 ¼” section of wire. Slide on a crystal copper, pacific opal, coin and a crimp bead. Flatten crimp to end of wire as before.
32. Cut off a 2” section of wire. Slide it into the crystal copper bead. Slide a crimp, silk and a crimp into the top of the wire and secure the silk bead to end of wire between crimps as before.
33. Slide a crimp, crystal copper and a crimp to end of wire and secure copper bead between crimps on end of wire as before.
34. Move down one section. Cut off a 2 ¼” section of wire. Attach it to core wire with crimp bead as before. Slide on a crystal copper bead and loop wire into it to secure it ½” from top of wire. Slide on a pacific opal bead and a crimp bead. Flatten crimp to end of wire as before.
35. Go through design to ensure all crimps are flattened and wire tails are clipped flush to prevent scratching when worn. |
