Designer's Tip:
Try adding other beads to change the overall finished effect. Pearls and gemstones can make for very earthy or elegant sandals, vintage beads give them a more retro feel, and seed beads can be used working across the straps for a simple, sleek effect. A fun, affordable, easy way to jazz up your summer wardrobe (or occupy your kids on a rainy summer day)! Happy Beading!

1. Begin by assembling beads, supplies and tools. Laying out your design on a bead board for ease and speed of beading. Start off with a double knot at the bottom right of your left flip-flop strap. Make sure that you tighten the knot and leave a tail. Thread your first bead onto the strand and lay it on top of the strap. Now wrap the strand around to the right threading the end through the left hand side of the strand and tightening and adjusting your bead. As you work along the flip-flop strap take your time to adjust the bead and ensure that the strand is staying straight and flush to the top of your strap.
2. Continue with this process working down to the toe bar. Thread a loop at the bottom of the last bead and make another loop at the bottom of the left hand side of the flip-flop strap. Now bead as you did on the other side until you reach the bottom of the left strap.
3. Tighten and adjust the beads; loop the strand around once, threading the tail through twice. Create a double knot. Again, make sure that this knot is tightened and trim excess strand leaving a tail.
4. Repeat the above steps to bead the right flip-flop. Once you have completed beading both sandals, place a dab of GS Hypo Cement on the knots to reinforce them.
5.Thread seven headpins with a Swarovski bicone bead. Create a loop at the top of each using round or chain nose pliers. Trim excess wire with flush cutters.
6. Add seven crystals on the prestranded flip-flops threading the looped head pin through from underneath the beaded strand and closing carefully with round or chain nose pliers. Work from the center and up both sides of the straps with one crystal on the toe bar and three crystals down each side of the strap.
7. After the Hypo Cement has dried, use chain or round nose pliers to tuck the tail of the Supplemax into the flip-flop where the straps begin. |
