1. Attach a 4x6mm mandrel to the Jump Ring Maker and follow the directions on the package to form three loops from silver wire.
2. While the coil is still on the mandrel, cut two jump rings and set them aside for Step 5. Remember that a flush cutter makes a flat cut on one end of the wire and a pointed cut on the other end. Turn the flush cutter both ways so the flat-cut jump ring ends will fit snugly together.
3. Attach a 6x8 mandrel to the Jump Ring Maker and use the rest of the silver wire to make a long coil.
4. While the coil is still on the mandrel, cut the rings apart.
5. Place each ring on an anvil or other hard surface and strike it with the hammer to harden it. The hardened rings are less likely to pull apart than rings that have not been hammered. The flattened rings also give the necklace an artistic, contemporary look.
6. Once all of the rings are hammered, connect seven 6x8mm rings together to form the center chain. Attach a large toggle ring to the last ring. When opening a jump ring, always turn one arm to the side like a door. Never open the ends directly apart or the ring won’t close properly.
7. Connect two sections of eleven 6x8mm rings each. Attach the last ring from each section to the top ring on the center of the pendant from Step 6.
8. Cut six equal lengths of small cable chain. Separate the chain lengths into two groups three chains each. Connect one section to the upper link on each side of the necklace as shown.
9. Use a 4x6mm ring to attach half of the small toggle clasp to each end of the necklace. |
