Notes:
This is a 4-strand woven necklace in shades of purple with gold accents. The design focus is on color, dimension, texture: think of the Gustav Klimt painting "The Kiss." The beauty of Beadalon 49 Strand 24k plated wire acts to enhance the design. As with all woven projects, pateince is paramount! Take your time and be sure that the strands are woven carefully through the beads with enough tension to create structure, but enough play to allow for flexibility. |
1. Getting Started: Begin by attaching the four 24" strands to the filigree clasp, crimping two strands with a single crimp bead. Thread all four strands through one of the 8mm dark purple Czech glass fancy beads, which acts as an anchor bead.
2. Begin Weaving: Each of the 4 strands will next be beaded in groups of five in the following pattern: lavender, gold, dark purple, gold, lavender. Thread all four strands through one of faceted glass bead. Separate the four strands into pairs. Two go through the amethyst triangle; two rest on top. Be careful that the two exposed strands do not become twisted. Thread all four strands through a spiral disc accent bead. The strands that crossed the amethyst triangle should be threaded through another amethyst triangle, allow the remaining two strands to rest on top. Do not allow these to become twisted.
3. Weave and Adjust tension: Thread all four strands through another faceted round bead. Carefully adjust the tension of all four strands to be fairly taut but allowing some play. Repeat the pattern until you reach the other side of the piece. There will be 5 groupings of larger beads and six groupings of seed beads. When you reach the end, work through the entire piece to adjust the tension.
4. Finish the Necklace: Thread all four strands through the other fancy bead, the second anchor bead. Crimp the wires in pairs the other side of the clasp. You will have a fair amount of excess wire after crimping; having the extra wire makes it easier to adjust the tension while beading. Finished length: 17 in. with clasp. |
