I teach wire and bead and metalwork techniques at local museums, arts workshops and wherever creative students gather and seek knowledge in the art of jewelrymaking. I teach nationally and internationally at bead festivals and shows. As an Ambassador for Create Your Style with Swarovski Elements I have created designs, written instructions and contributed technical advice to various publications in the art of bead and wire jewelrymaking. I have been on expert advice teams and my designs have been featured on a major resellers catalog cover. In the interest of sharing my creativity, I am working with the Beadalon team to develop and bring my inventions to the marketplace to help students find ways to satisfy their desire to create and realize their needs for the very best findings and tools. It is my pleasure to be working in such a dynamic environment and on an exciting path in my career.
Video presentations of my work can also be found online and through my website www.sandsstones.com
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
I am inspired by the grace and beauty of the natural world around us and by my travels and lifelong experiences, especially with my family. I am also inspired by my students and fellow jewelrymakers in a caring and sharing DIY community.
WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT AS A JEWELRY DESIGNER?
Over the years, my design instinct is fueled by my desire to share. This has made my chosen path all the more interesting as I continue to learn as I teach. I feel the desire to learn is a gift that gives back and I am excited to be able to offer jewelry design in unison with my desire to invent tools and devices for the DIY industry and so the jewelrymaker.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR WORK?
Most importantly, collaborating with creatively motivated people puts a smile on my face. This spurs me to share my love of jewelry making. On an individual level, the beauty I find in gems, crystals, metals and organic objects gives me great joy and fuels my creativity.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BEADING OR JEWELRY MAKING TECHNIQUE?
It is impossible to choose one. I would say that first would be wirewrapping. Second would be working with and creating tools and devices to facilitate my love of metalwork techniques. Third would be utilizing traditional and non-traditional methods to set gemstones and pearls and Swarovski Elements. I strive to harness an elements sparkle color intensity and texture just so to enhance its place in my designs.
