Understanding Colors

• Primary Colors: the building blocks of all colors in the color spectrum

• Secondary Colors: a combination of two primary colors

• Tertiary Colors: a combination of a primary and a secondary color 

• Complementary Colors: are opposites on the color wheel and create strong contrast

 

• Analogous Colors: are three to five side-by-side colors on the wheel used to create harmonious designs


• Warm Colors: group of colors that feel spicy like red, yellow, and orange

• Cool Colors: feel soothing like green, blue and purple

• Neutral Colors: feel calm like taupe, khaki and brown
